Lugol’s iodine was a formulation invented by Dr. Lugol in the early 1800s. It is a combination of elemental iodine (I2), with potassium iodide (KI), in a distilled water base. The purpose of adding potassium iodide to the formula is to make the elemental iodine soluble in water.
Lugol’s iodine has the distinct advantage over drugstore iodine that contains the toxic isopropyl alcohol. For this reason, drugstore iodine is for external use only. In contrast, Lugol’s iodine can be taken internally.
There are three useful concentrations of Lugol’s iodine on the market, each for a specific purpose. Traditionally, they are called the 2%, 5%, and 7% Lugol’s iodine solutions, and are useful for the following conditions:
2.5 mg/drop Lugol’s iodine (2%) – for external use in sensitive areas primarily –yeast infections, nasal polyps, stuffy nose
6.2 mg/drop Lugol’s iodine (5%) – for internal use primarily –hormone generator, hypothyroidism, internal cancers, candida, internal fungal infections, brain focus, skin integrity
8.7 mg/drop Lugol’s iodine (7%) – for external use in non-sensitive areas primarily – externally used to eradicate moles, skin fungus, skin tags, skin cancer
Lugol’s Iodine (2.5 mg/drop) for Sensitive External Use
A low concentration of iodine is required for external applications that are sensitive, such as mucous membranes. I’ve discovered that I can apply 2.5 mg/drop iodine to the inside of my nostrils to get rid of viruses and thereby clear my nose. Dip a cotton swab (Q-Tip) in a bottle of 2.5 mg/drop iodine and then apply to nose.
For yeast infections, apply 2.5 mg/drop iodine to a tampon before insertion and leave for a few hours.
Lugol’s Iodine (6.2 mg/drop) for Internal Use
The thyroid is the major receptor of iodine in the body, but virtually all the organs make use of it, including the brain and the skin. It is so important that mental and physical retardation occur with a deficiency of this most important mineral. It has been discovered by Dr. Guy Abraham and others that the body is capable of storing 1500 mg, but 94% of people fall far short of this amount. The official recommended amount of 150 micrograms/day is merely enough to prevent cretinism (physical and mental retardation), but not nearly enough to prevent hypothyroidism, goiter, thyroid cancer, and other problems.
To start taking 6.2 mg/drop iodine, put 1 drop in half a cup of water each day. If there are no problems, such as itching, then up the dosage each week until you reach 50 mg/day, which would be 50 mg/(6.2 mg/drop) = 8 drops/day. In three months, your body should be saturated with iodine, which will ensure proper functioning of organs requiring iodine and provide immunity from radioactive iodine which is spewing out of the Japanese Fukushima nuclear plant and spreading around the globe.
Lugol’s Iodine (8.7 mg/drop) for External Use
This highly concentrated form of Lugol’s iodine can also be used internally, and fewer drops are required compared to the 6.2 mg/drop formula. Dr. Tulio Simoncini, an oncologist from Italy, has successfully cured skin cancer using an 8.7 mg/drop concentration of iodine (7%).
Also possible is the removal of skin tags, moles, and fungus by repeated application of this strong, water-based formula that is comparable to the standard 7% Strong Tincture that contains alcohol.
A Word About Misleading Lugol’s Iodine Percentages
In recent years, we’ve been seeing inflated percentages for Lugol’s iodine, but beware — it is the mg/drop figure that is important. For example, there have been three other percentages in the marketplace, and their mg/drop figures are as follows:
- “3%” Lugol’s iodine– 1.5 mg/drop
- “7%” Lugol’s iodine – 3.5 mg/drop
- “15%” Lugol’s iodine – 7.4 mg/drop
The reason for the inflated percentages is because they are including the percentage of iodide from the potassium iodide in the solution. Originally, Dr. Lugol only used the percentage of elemental iodine in the formula. Therefore, you should only look at the advertised mg/drop when purchasing Lugol’s iodine.
